This is a collection of pieces of advice to make your everyday photos more enjoyable to look at; a little more with every post. These are only bits which do not claim to be complete, but are rather all you need to know at that moment.

I assume my readers are non-professionals who are interested in capturing their memories in the way they have experienced them, instead of how their camera device automatically suggests an output, thereby speaking of using anything from a mobile phone to an auto-set DSLR.

See the difference?

One photo has a cluttered background and the other one is clean, with a pattern. The distraction in the second photo is less eminent and helps focus the viewer on the people pictured.

If you can’t move any objects out of your frame, you can try to move the people you photograph closer to the lens. If you work with a wide aperture or a long lens, the background might blur to an extent to make the unwanted disappear.

Also: Pay attention that nothing »grows« out of anyone’s head! Poles, trees, lines etc.
